Same day
Same-Day Dumpster Rental in Hartford
Ring early and there is a good chance a box is on your drive today. The yard is at 192 Ledyard Street in the South Meadows, which is minutes from I-91 and Route 2 and a straightforward run to most of the Capitol Region.
Same day is a real service here rather than a slogan, and it works because of where the yard sits. 192 Ledyard Street is in the South Meadows, Hartford's industrial river district, a few minutes from I-91 and Route 2 and a short run onto I-84. From there the city itself is inside twenty minutes in any direction, and West Hartford, East Hartford, Wethersfield, Newington, Windsor and Bloomfield are all comfortable morning runs. Ring early — before mid-morning is the honest cut-off on most days — and if a box of the size you need is on the yard and a truck is free, it goes out that day. Ring at four in the afternoon and we will tell you the truth, which is usually tomorrow morning.
What makes or breaks a same-day set is almost never the driving. It is what the driver finds when they arrive. Cars on the drive with the owner at work, a locked gate and nobody holding the key, a snowbank across the apron in February, an overhanging maple limb nobody looked up at, or a spot chosen tight against a timber wall that the fire code will not allow. Under IFC 2021 section 304.3.3 as adopted in Connecticut, a container of 1.5 cubic yards or more cannot sit inside a building or within five feet of a combustible wall, opening or roof eave line, and a driver will not put one there. Two minutes on the phone about the approach, the swing side and the overhead saves the whole trip.
The jobs that need a box today tend to be the same handful. A tenant left and the flat has to be turned before the weekend. A cellar took water. A limb came down across the yard after a storm the way they did across Connecticut during Tropical Storm Irene in August 2011 and again with Isaias in August 2020. A closing date moved. A contractor's other hauler did not show. None of those are planned events, and none of them care that the bulky programme takes appointments and offers twenty-five a day. We keep the fleet sized so there is usually slack in it, and when there genuinely is not we say so rather than booking you and missing.
What Same-Day Calls Are Usually About
Tenant Turnover On A Deadline
A flat vacated with a new tenant due, and everything the last one left behind still in it. In a city that is 81 per cent multifamily this is the most common urgent call we take.
Water In The Cellar
A burst pipe, a failed sump or a wet spring on a valley floor that has flooded every spring since long before the dikes went up. Saturated contents get heavier and worse by the hour.
Storm And Wind Debris
Limbs, fencing, shed roofs and torn siding after a storm. Connecticut outages have run to a week in past events, and the clear-up starts before anyone has power back.
A Contractor Left Short
The other hauler did not arrive, the box is full and the crew is standing about. We can usually put a fresh container in and take the full one on the same run.
Property Closings And Move-Outs
A completion date that moved, a property that has to be handed over empty, and a weekend to do it in. Furniture, carpet, appliances and whatever is in the attic.
Fire, Smoke And Insurance Work
Damaged contents and fabric out fast so drying and repair can start. Anything with a hazardous character comes out of the load and goes to the MDC facility at 125 Maxim Road.
Estate And Probate Deadlines
A house that has to be cleared by a date set by someone other than the family. We take that work at the pace the family needs but the container can be there today.
Overflow On A Live Site
A demolition week that produced more than the schedule allowed for. A second box today rather than a crew stood down tomorrow, sized for the heavy fraction if that is the problem.
Getting A Same-Day Set To Actually Happen
Three things make same day work. Ring early: the earlier in the morning the call comes in, the more of the day there is to route it, and mid-morning is the realistic cut-off on a busy day. Be flexible on size: if the 20 you wanted is out and a 15 is on the yard, a 15 today usually beats a 20 tomorrow, and for dense material the smaller box was probably the right answer anyway. And have the site ready before the truck leaves: cars moved, the gate open or somebody there, snow cleared in winter, the spot chosen and five feet clear of the eave line. Where we cannot help is a set that needs an Obstruction Permit, because that is the city's paperwork rather than ours and the Permit Division keeps its own hours on 860-757-9970. A street set is a planned job, not a same-day one. On private ground with a clear approach, same day is straightforward more often than not.

The yard at 192 Ledyard Street sits inside the diked area of the South Meadows, behind the flood-control system the Army Corps built after the March 1936 flood put the Connecticut River at 37.6 feet in this city. That location is a working advantage: minutes from I-91 and Route 2, a short run to I-84, and every Hartford neighbourhood within a short drive, from Frog Hollow and Barry Square to Asylum Hill, the West End, Clay-Arsenal, Upper Albany and Downtown. Beyond the city we run across the Capitol Region: West Hartford, East Hartford, Wethersfield, Newington, Bloomfield, Windsor, South Windsor, Manchester, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, New Britain and Berlin, all of them CRCOG member towns alongside Hartford. Connecticut works by town rather than by county — county government was abolished on 1 October 1960 — so we route by town, and each of the 169 towns runs its own solid waste arrangements. Tell us the town and the street and we will say honestly whether today is possible.

Same-Day Dumpster Rental FAQs
How late can I ring and still get a container today?
Earlier is better and mid-morning is the honest cut-off on most days. A same-day set has to fit into a route that already exists, so the more of the working day is left when the call comes in, the more likely it is we can slot you in. If you ring at eight and the size you want is on the yard, it is usually straightforward. If you ring at four, we will normally tell you first thing tomorrow, and we would rather say that than book you and not turn up. The yard is at 192 Ledyard Street in the South Meadows, so travel time inside Hartford and the nearer towns is short; it is the route rather than the distance that decides.
Do you charge more for same day?
We do not publish prices anywhere on this site, so ring the yard on (959) 666-6427 and you will get a straight answer for your job, your size and your town. What we can say is that the cost drivers on a same-day set are the same as any other: the size of the box, the material going in it, how long you keep it and where it has to travel. Urgency does not change what a ton of plaster weighs. What genuinely does add cost to any job is a wasted trip, which is why the two minutes spent on access when you book matters more to the final figure than the day of the week you rang.
Which towns can you reach the same day?
Hartford itself, comfortably, and the ring of towns around it: West Hartford, East Hartford, Wethersfield, Newington, Bloomfield, Windsor, South Windsor, Rocky Hill, Manchester, Glastonbury, Farmington, New Britain and Berlin, with Avon and Simsbury a little further out and generally next day unless we are already running that way. All of those are CRCOG member towns in the Capitol Region. Connecticut is organised by town rather than county, and every town runs its own arrangements, so tell us the town by name and we will be honest about the day. Note that Bristol and Middletown are not in this region and we do not pretend otherwise.
What stops a same-day delivery from happening?
Access, nearly always. Cars parked on the drive with the owner at work. A locked gate and no key. In winter, a snowbank or a plough windrow across the apron that nobody cleared. Overhead limbs or a service drop at less than twenty feet where the hoist needs to stand the box up. Or a chosen spot within five feet of a combustible wall, opening or roof eave line, which IFC section 304.3.3 as adopted in Connecticut does not allow and a driver will not do. The other one is a street set: that needs an Obstruction Permit from Hartford's Public Works Permit Division on 860-757-9970 at $50 plus three cents per square foot per day, and permits are not a same-day matter.
Can you swap a full container the same day?
Usually, and it is one of the most common same-day calls we get from contractors. If your box is full and the crew is waiting, ring early and we will try to bring an empty out and take the full one back on the same run. Two things help. First, tell us honestly what is in it: a container loaded with plaster, tile or wet material may be at payload at two thirds full and needs a different plan than one full of framing offcuts. Second, keep the approach clear so the driver can get to it, because a full box on a drive blocked by a skip loader or a van is a wasted trip and pushes everyone else's day back too.
